Distinguished Features is a production company formed to
develop and produce feature films and television drama and documentary.
The company was formed in 2000 by David Mc Loughlin and Clare Scully,
both of whom are highly experienced in and knowledgeable of film
production, and the Irish Film industry in particular.
Distinguished Features has recently formed an alliance with
Kevin Menton’s Hibernia Films via the creation of a jointly owned
holding company, the Arkvision Group. In addition to developing and
producing its own projects the combined companies provide production
services to other Producers in the form of providing a complete
co-production service, the provision of taxed based finance, the
creation of production schedules, production & development budgets,
& providing general film industry consultancy.
Distinguished
Features recently Co-Produced the film adaptation of Spike Milligan’s
"Puckoon", starring Elliot Gould, John
Lynch & Sir Richard Attenborough. The company’s latest production,
"Zulu 9" a digital project financed by
the Irish Film Board and RTÉ, recently won an audience award at the Cork
International Film Festival 2001.
Distinguished Features has a
number of projects currently in development, including "Dead Bodies" which was awarded development
funding from the Irish Film Board, & is seeking both financial and
creative partners to develop existing & future
projects.
David Mc Loughlin has been involved in full time film
production since 1995 when he produced Ireland’s first 35mm cinemascope
short film. "All Souls’ Day" followed;
his first feature film as producer, directed by Alan Gilsenan. He
subsequently worked as Trainee Producer on Jim Sheridan’s "The Boxer" & Assistant to the Director on
Pat O’Connor’s "Dancing at Lughnasa".
He was then appointed Head of Production in Irish Screen, one of
Ireland’s leading film production & financing companies. While in
Irish Screen he co-produced a number of BBC co-productions including the
films "Vicious Circle" & "The American", & the drama serial "Aristocrats". In 1999 he co-produced the
feature film "When the Sky Falls"
starring Oscar winners Joan Allen and Pete Poselthwaite, based on the
life of murdered journalist Veronica Guerin. David was previously the
Manager of the Dublin Film Festival, and Administrator of Film Makers
Ireland, the producers’ representative organisation, prior to embarking
on film production.
Clare Scully was first employed in a film
production capacity in 1994 on Mel Gibson’s multi-Oscar winning "Brave Heart". She was then appointed Assistant
to Arthur Lappin, one of Ireland’s most successful film producers, in
Hell’s Kitchen, the company he owns with Jim Sheridan, arguably
Ireland’s leading international film director. While working in Hell’s
Kitchen Clare has worked in a senior production capacity on many large
feature productions in Ireland such as "Some
Mother’s Son", "The Boxer"
directed by Jim Sheridan, "Agnes
Browne" directed by & starring Anjelica Houston, "On the Edge", & most recently "Borstal Boy". Clare is a graduate in Film
Studies from the Dublin Institute of Technology
